It’s not every show that gets to be declared the longest running drama currently in production. In fact, we’re pretty sure that honor can only ever go to one show at a time! And after being on for 61 years, General Hospital currently (and hopefully will for some time) holds that honor. Not only that, but the show’s taken home the most Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Daytime Drama with 16 wins so far.

So it’s no wonder that the ABC sudser was just honored last week when Stage 4, the stage where it’s filmed was officially renamedTheGeneral HospitalStage, plaque and all! Of course, it wouldn’t be a celebration unless the cast, crew and production staff were all on-hand for the big day — not to mention cupcakes and cookies!
“General Hospital‘s legacy is set in stone (literally),” the show released on its official Instagram page, “as our stage has officially been christened ‘The General Hospital Stage’ in honor of our 60th Anniversary.” Check out some of the photos from the day in the post, and don’t worry, we’ve got plenty more below!
Now, if at this point you’re thinking, “Wait a minute, that 60th anniversary was last year. How long has General Hospital actually been on?!” Then yeah, you’re right. And no, the folks of General Hospital didn’t go back in time to make this happen because it has been 61 years.
As ABC Current Series Executive Nathan Varni explained on Facebook, “This event was supposed to take place in April, 2023 but due to a multitude of reasons was postponed. Well, we finally celebrated the legacy and history of General Hospital with a stage dedication placard that will live on forever! Thanks to everyone involved with the show for all your hard work, dedication and passion for continuing to keep this show alive and running! Congrats to all involved! We deeply admire and appreciate everyone who works around the clock to bring this series to life 255 days a year!”
