That could add a bit of tragedy to the ending, IMO. The heroes have to decide who they're going to be in a new world that doesn't have room for them. It would make for less of an unambiguously happy ending and more of a bittersweet taste.

And I'm not saying that killing Salem would kill the Grimm, that'd make no sense. Rather, I think that the Grimm are going to be wiped out in the process of her defeat.

I dunno, humans are his creations too. If one of his creations was attacking another, he'd probably have a very emotional reaction to it in the moment and then regret it later.

Another possibility is that the Dark Brother removes the Grimm's drive to kill all humans, and they coexist peacefully with humanity. That might be interesting.

Removing all the Grimm would be cool and all, but that also means the end of the whole Huntsman profession. They’re more or less a part of the world now, and existed long before Salem - at least if she’s no longer a threat, the Grimm may be more manageable

Also I doubt that GoD cares about humans are much as the Grimm - he had no problem with wiping them out, nor did he have any problem with leaving the Grimm around to prey on them when he and his brother abandoned Remnant

I mean, as things are now, Mistral should be dead or dying from Grimm overrunning it after being attracted by mass panic over Ruby's message, and that leaves Vacuo, Argus, and Menageries as the final bastions of Civilization to resettle the world. With Argus' defenders losing whatever industrial support they needed from Atlas. There's a very plausible scenario in which Remnant's civilization don't recover from this dark time... at least not for a VERY long time, with populations shrinking from attrition and limited supplies as refugees flock to the the dwindling lights.

But yes, if Grimm were removed as an existential threat present in all natural spaces and the ruins that used to be settlements, which I feel might be required at this point, Huntsmen and Huntresses as we and the setting knew them will fade and disappear into the realm of history. Oh sure, fighting wild animals while blazing new trails and guarding the frontier will be good uses for their skillsets, and bounty missions will likely go up in coming decades, but defending civilization from continual existential threats is going to be behind them.... unless they fight those who are like them but have embraced the ways of Mercenaries and warlords. Then you'll have Huntsmen and Huntresses who are doing noble work... by slaying those who were once peers also trained to protect.

We had a whole discussion about what the characters would do going forward if the need for Hunters of Grimm ceased to be. Ruby would definitely take it the hardest

Honestly, this idea sounds metal as f*ck. I think I want this to become canon.

I like the idea of their victory against Salem ultimately being a pyrrhic victory. Oh, sure. They defeated the ancient evil and wiped out the Grimm. But in doing that they also opened the door for worse things to plague Remnant.
