For more than two decades, FastPass was a free perk at Disney Resorts while other theme park chains (I’m looking at you, Universal Studios) attached a hefty price tag to their copycat offerings. But with the sunsetting of FastPass and the appearance of Disney Genie+ in 2021, Disney guests now have to pay.

How Much Does Disney Genie+ Cost?
First, let’s clarify a major distinction: The Disney Genie service, a planning tool with real-time in-park updates, is completely free. However, then there’s Genie+, and that is a paid service that you can purchase day-of that’s built into the Disney Genie service. Disney Genie+ allows you to purchase the service, and then select Lightning Lanes that you can use to skip the regular standby line by reserving a ride time on select attractions.

For that privilege, you will pay per guest per day. The cost will fluctuate depending on how busy the day is at the parks, and Disney World now uses park-specific pricing.

During the holiday season, Disney Genie+ sees a particularly high jump in surge pricing. For the 2023 holiday season, we shared daily prices from December 18 to January 1, 2024, which saw the highest Disney Genie+ pricing on record.

It’s also important to note that on multiple days, the options for Multi-Park, Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios sold out.
What Does Paying for Disney Genie+ Get You?
For that handsome per-day and per-guest fee, Genie+ will grant you access to over 40 attractions at Disney World and more than 15 at Disneyland. You can select an arrival time at one attraction at a time using Genie+. During your arrival window, you simply show up use the Lightning Lane entranceand board the ride much more quickly. After you’ve had your fun, bust out your My Disney Experience or Disneyland app and make your next Genie+ selection. Lightning Lane vs Disney Genie+
What? No Rise of the Resistance? No Seven Dwarfs Mine Train? No Radiator Springs Racers? For these E-Ticket attractions, Disney has an additional service you’ll need to purchase: Individual Lightning Lane attraction selection. These rides arenotincluded as part of the Disney Genie+ service and instead come with a separate per-person, per-ride cost to use the Lightning Lane.
Similar to Disney Genie+, these rides all experience surge pricing, so you’ll be paying more for a Lightning Lane to Rise of the Resistance around Christmas than you will on a weekday in August.

Currently, Disney World only allows you to purchase Disney Genie+ the day of your visit. Because it has date-based pricing, the cost of the service will depend on which park(s) you are visiting as well as the date.

Pricing for Individual Lightning Lane selections varies by ride and day. (Frustrating for us budgeters and planners, I know). What Does Paying for an Individual Lightning Lane Get You?
While Disney Genie+ gets you access to a large sampling of popular rides (one at a time for selections, of course), Individual Lightning Lane attraction selection is a separate add-on service reserved for only the most popular of rides. You can pay for up to two Individual Lightning Lanes a day to ensure a ride on your favorite attractions, also through the Lightning Lane.
